The difference between threaded connection and flange connection

Thread connection and flange connection are common ways of connecting mechanical components, with different meanings, connection methods, and purposes as the main differences.

1. Different meanings
Threaded flange connection generates less additional pressure on the pipe wall and is one of the widely used flange structures in engineering construction.

There are holes on the flange, and bolts make the two flanges tightly connected and sealed with gaskets. A pipe fitting with a flange (flange or adapter).

2. Different applications
The installation and disassembly of valve pipelines connected by flanges are relatively convenient, but flange connections are bulky and correspondingly expensive compared to threaded connections. Therefore, they are suitable for pipeline connections of various sizes and pressures.

Threaded connections are sometimes easy to disassemble, but their compression level is not high. The connection form of flanges also includes threaded connections, but it is used to connect fittings with smaller diameters and larger thicknesses.

3. Different connection methods
Thread connection refers to the connection of two components together through threads, such as bolts and nuts, threaded pipes and joints, etc. Threaded connections are usually used for components that require frequent disassembly and maintenance, with the advantages of simplicity, convenience, and reliability. The disadvantage is that threaded connections are usually not strong enough and are prone to loosening and leakage.

Flange connection refers to the connection of two components together through flanges, such as flanges and flange plates, flanges and pipelines. Flange connections are usually used for components that need to withstand harsh conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, or chemical corrosion. Its advantages are firm connection, good sealing, and high reliability. The disadvantage is that the connection method is relatively complex, requiring special tools and skills for installation and disassembly, and the cost is high.

Therefore, the use of threaded connections and flange connections is different, and appropriate connection methods need to be selected based on specific needs.
